Turn OneViking Phase General advance across the line … a few very long range bowshots achieved no effect on the Romans Roman Phase Slow general advance … the Lanciarii moved off to the left flank and in the center. There was no missile fire the Romans. Turn TwoViking Phase The advance continues and the skirmishing fire intensified … this fire was able to bring down a cataphract! Roman Phase The already slow roman advance had petered out … their skirmish fire was totally ineffective. |

Turn ThreeViking Phase The main body of the Vikings stop advancing, but Vikings skirmisher continued to move on the right flank around a copse of trees. A small detachment of bowmen advanced to the far flank of the cataphracts, the resulting fire onto them was devastating … Four riders fell and the remaining cataphracts retreated, never to be seen on the battlefield again! A berserker stormed out and inflicted a couple of kills on the Lanciarii before they were able to take him down. Roman Phase The roman army seemed confused … their charges failed to contact. To cover their exposed left flank, a lone Lanciarii unit formed up and prepared to battle the Viking skirmishers closing in on them. The desultory skirmish fire from the Romans could not bring down a single Viking. Though the long range fire from a ballista was able to drop one Viking. Turn FourViking Phase The Vikings stood their ground, except the skirmisher on the right closed in on the Lanciarii. A rain of missile fire was drop onto the right most Roman unit. Unfortunately this Unit had formed into its Tortoise shell … one lone roman drop from the massed fire. Roman Phase Both Lanciarii units charged and contacted Vikings on the left and a Unit of Bondi in the center. Both charges were successful with the Vikings fleeing from the Lanciarii, incredulity the Bondi held their ground! |
Turn FiveViking Phase The skirmisher after fleeing away from the Romans, were able to form into a fighting formation. Bowmen on the left, continued to fire on the Romans, but the effect of such fire was minimal. Three Berserker flew out of the Viking line at the Romans, alas they were only able to drop four Romans before being hacked to pieces. The Bondi and Lanciarii locked into mortal combat continued to flail away at each other, though the casualties mounted neither side was able to break the other. Roman Phase The Lanciarii once again charged into the reformed Vikings, though they were able to inflict several casualties, the Vikings held this time. The fight raged onto between the Lanciarii and Bondi with no end in sight. Turn SixViking Phase Two Viking Units charged the Roman line … the Roman Veterans took the brunt of the charged inflicted numerous casualties on the Vikings for the loss of the one Roman! The Viking General was able to keep both units from breaking. Bondi in the center continue to hold. Roman Phase The remaining Legionnaires charged the Viking line, though one unit failed to make contact this turn. Even with the addition of the extra legionaries and the general, the Romans were not able to break the Viking line. In fact the devastating attacks by the Two Handed wielding axemen beat up the legionaries, who except for their Stubbornness would have broken. The Lanciarii on the left flank were able to break the dwindling Vikings and ran them down once they finally broke. The remaining Lanciarii unfortunately were not able hold and after an epic battle fled the field of battle. |

Turn SevenViking Phase In the Center, the two battle lines surged back and forth, though now that the Vikings had withstood the initial shock of the Roman war machine, they were to mix it up with them and inflicted heavy casualties on the Romans. The Bondi on the Flanks prepared to fend off any Roman attacks, which were sure to come. Roman Phase The last reaming Legionnaire century charged the Bondi defending a small mound on the right flank. Thanks to the slope the Vikings suffered few casualties and held their ground against their superior Roman foe. The news was worse in the center, the pressure from the Vikings was to much for the 3 rd Century and they broke from combat along with the general. The destruction of the Roman army was held off by the valiant defense of the Prima century, which tied up the whole Viking center. Turn EightViking Phase The time gained by the Veteran legionnaires allowed the Tribune to rally up what was left of his Cohort. Unfortunately this was just in time to watch the few remaining legionaries finally break and get run down by the victorious Vikings. This in turned caused the wholesale retreat of the Roman Cohort. |
