Daybreak at Hangman's Creek

A few pictures from the Black Powder game played last Saturday at the store. As Bill Stewart was providing all the miniatures and terrain, he chose to run the ACW scenario (minus the cavalry) from the Black Powder rulebook. The scenario uses just the basic unit stats which work out well for all us, as no one had played more than 3 games.

We played for around 3 hours with the game concluding in a Union victory. While the Union center was hard pressed, it still had support from both flanks. The chief success for the Union was on the left flank, where Mike Lombardi really smashed the confederate right and was in the process of cutting off the Confederate’s line of communications. Bill Stewart and I faced off on the right flank and while I chewed up more of his units, found myself pretty much stuck where I started the engagement.

Overall we had a fairly error free game and I feel like we have the BP mechanics well in hand. I hope to give the game a try with our growing collection of 28mm Napoleonic’s this summer. We have yet come grips with the Cavalry, Skirmisher and Square rules. I suspect, to quell my own as well as the diehard nappy players, I will have to come up some house rules to better reflect some of the issues that a Napoleonic battlefield has that BP does not cover. The period blandness of the rules appears to be the #1 issue most gamers dislike about BP.
